The Challenge

Staying motivated in diet and training.

Many peole find it difficult to do diet and excersice, because there are many reasons that prevent them from keeping motivated. This includes the constant research of how and when to do it since there are too many choices and the lack of time to see immediate results.

Lose weight, have better eating/exercise habits, and start leading a healthier life. This is the goal of many users but the main problem is that generally they lose their motivation along the way.

Hi-fi prototype: my proposal focuses on constantly reminding the user the initial goal from an emotional point of view with messages such as: texts, images, videos, etc. The idea is to remember the reason why to do it and not the obligation to do it. In order to do this the user, at a key moment, receives a reminding notification of the goal to encourage him to do some physical activity. When the activity is finished, the user receives an encouraging message to go and check the progress made so far.

Learning & Next steps

I believe this app has the potential to keep people motivated in order to help them reach their training and dieting goals, which will in turn address what the data show are the main pain points.

Finding a way of keeping user motivated is not easy to solve. If the app is atractive in colors this could be an incentive for them but it could push away those with color blindness. So, another option in addition to the color scheme could be to appeal to the emotional memory: remember the reason why and not the obligation. This could be a nice quote, an old favourite picture, or just the perfect song: whatever serves as a souvenir of "the reason way", which will boost motivation when the time to excercise arrives.

Next steps: I would like to continue investigating by testing how people reacts at this emotional memories and the effects and results in long terms.
